Explore this ideaJokkoMed — Specialist Teleconsultation
Medical teleconsultation platform connecting Senegalese patients with specialist doctors available via video within 2 hours, at accessible rates.
The Problem
In Senegal, consulting a medical specialist (cardiologist, dermatologist, gynecologist, psychiatrist) requires an average wait of 3 to 6 weeks and a trip to a hospital or private clinic in Dakar. Patients in the regions (Ziguinchor, Tambacounda, Matam) have virtually no access to specialists. The cost of a specialist consultation (25,000 to 75,000 FCFA) and travel expenses discourage millions of Senegalese from managing their chronic and acute conditions before they worsen.
The Opportunity
The telemedicine market in Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to reach $5.4 billion by 2030, driven by the democratization of smartphones and 4G. Senegal officially legalized medical teleconsultation in 2024 as part of its digital health strategy. The Senegalese diaspora is actively looking for solutions to have their relatives in Senegal consult doctors, generating payment flows from abroad.
The Concept
JokkoMed is a mobile and web application allowing any patient to choose a specialist from a network of 80 qualified and verified doctors (cardiologists, dermatologists, gynecologists, pediatricians, psychiatrists, generalists) and obtain a video consultation within 2 hours. The rate starts at 8,000 FCFA for a general consultation and 15,000 FCFA for a specialist, 50 to 70% cheaper than in-person. The digital prescription is generated and sent via WhatsApp, valid at partner pharmacies. A family subscription at 25,000 FCFA/month includes 4 consultations/month and continuous medical follow-up. The diaspora can pay from abroad (Stripe) to gift a consultation to a relative in Senegal.
The "Secret Sauce" (USP)
- 2-hour availability: where private specialists impose 3 to 6 weeks waiting, JokkoMed guarantees a consultation within 2 hours — absolute competitive advantage on medical urgency
- WhatsApp prescription valid at pharmacies: the digital prescription is recognized by partner pharmacies — the patient receives their treatment without going to the hospital
- Diaspora Stripe payment: a Senegalese person in Paris can pay in 1 click for their mother's consultation in Ziguinchor — unique model monetizing transnational family solidarity
